“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6:9
We are coming to you with a dire need today. Joshua needs your help. We are launching a “Meet the Need” campaign for him as we need to cover the cost of a new medication that is crucial to supporting his medical needs and the ability of our staff to continue caring for him.
First, let’s meet Joshua. Joshua is estimated to be about 15 years old. You see, Joshua was found abandoned on the street and was placed at the St. George Centre by the Ministry of Social Welfare, so his exact age and birthdate are unknown. Joshua was diagnosed with epilepsy and autism, and when his needs became too great for them to manage, The St. George Foundation referred Joshua to The Raining Season, where he came in 2015. Joshua lives in the Hope Room where he receives excellent care from the aunties there. Joshua’s smile lights up a room, and he loves to interact with the other children as well as visitors to the center.
Joshua is not the first child’s story we have shared from the Hope Room. We have also shared the importance of the Hope Room. The Hope Room is an apartment solely dedicated to caring for and nurturing children with special needs, like Joshua. The Hope Room provides a safe place for children to be loved and cared for. Our aunties who work with children in the Hope Room are extraordinary in every way. However, Joshua’s increasing seizure activity and behaviors associated with his diagnosis mean a new medication to help continue to support his needs. This medication, recommended by his neurologist, costs approximately $100 per month.
Without this medication, it will continue to become increasingly difficult to care for Joshua and his special needs. The Raining Season is unique in that it is the only facility that will take children with these types of special needs in Sierra Leone. Without The Raining Season, these children are either reunited with their extended family or a very sad reality, they die. That is why we NEED our village to help us continue to love and care for the most vulnerable children in Sierra Leone - children, who without The Raining Season and the Hope Room, have no hope.
That is where we come to you today. We are launching a “Meet the Need” campaign to raise the funds to cover this new medication for Joshua for one year. Can you donate $5, $10, $20, or more? Can you share the DONATION LINK with a friend who might give to Joshua’s “Meet the Need Campaign”? Our goal is to raise $1,200.00 for Joshua by July 1st.
Think about Joshua for a moment. Nine years old, malnourished, and unable to communicate, wandering the streets of Freetown alone. Can you imagine coming across that boy? What would you do? Would you be willing to step in and be the hands and feet of Jesus that offers safety and protection? Can you help The Raining Season continue to provide a hopeful future for Joshua?
Will you join us in praying for Joshua? We pray that we are able to raise the funds needed to cover the cost of this medication for one year and that this new medication will provide relief from his ongoing problems. We pray that he will thrive and show improvements in his medical journey. We also pray for the aunties that love and care for him and all of the children on a daily basis.
Thank you for your being part of our village, for your prayers, and for your continued support.
Many blessings,
The Raining Season
