The Raining Season

How Sponsorship Impacts Kadiatu

Last August, we welcomed Kadiatu and her brother Sullay to The Covering. It is through the gracious support of people like you that when there is a child in need, The Raining Season can say yes.  It is because of your support that we can provide a safe and nurturing home for Kadiatu and Sullay together.  Because of your support, The Raining Season offers a safe place to live, opportunity through education, nutritious food, essential medical care, and spiritual nurturing every day.

The Raining Season

Today, Kadiatu is thirteen years old.  When she came to TRS last year, she was very shy.  Now, she enjoys jumping rope with her friends, reading, and watching Barbie movies.  She also enjoys singing.  She is in the church choir and helps lead devotions in her apartment.  She is also preparing to begin a new school year.  She works hard in school and dreams of becoming a nurse.

The Raining Season

We know that the children placed at our center through the Ministry of Gender and Children's Affairs come with trauma, feelings of abandonment, and a feeling of hopelessness.  This leaves them desperately needing to feel loved and cared for.  The smiles come with time and trust.  Slowly, they are rebuilt, transforming them from the inside out.  Today, beauty simply radiates from Kadiatu.  None of this is possible without your support through sponsorship.

In June, Julie Goldner made her second trip to Sierra Leone.  She first traveled last September, just after Kadiatu and her brother Sullay came to TRS.  While she does not sponsor Kadiatu, she still made an impression on her.  When Julie returned this past June, she was happy to see Kadiatu again.  Julie shared, "A beautiful moment for me was to see Kadiatu again. She and her brother were new to TRS shortly before my first trip in September 2023. Kadiatu was quiet and shy, and I will never forget how sad she looked. Wow! What a difference I saw in her in June! She has grown so much. Her smile just lit up when I saw her. She was no longer that shy little girl. She was happy, outgoing, and had made many beautiful friendships. It was truly one of the best parts of the trip. I had often prayed for her and couldn't get the image of her looking sad out of my mind. To witness the change in her is a testament to the care and love TRS has given her and the mighty love of God!"  Kadiatu can let her light shine again thanks to an incredible staff that loves and cares for her and sponsors who support her.
